Discover the history of Saint-Christophe-du-Ligneron, a commune in north-west Vendée with a population of 2,500. Despite its ancient past and its former name of Saint-Christophe La Chèvre Pendue, few vestiges remain. The Chapelle Saint-Jean and part of the wall of the medieval Château de la Chalonnière bear witness to its past. In 1791, the first victims of the Vendée uprising shed their blood here, commemorated by a Vendéen Memorial Cross. The church houses a remarkable Christ on the Cross dating from the 15th century.
